Overview
Learning Spanish in Quito gives
students the opportunity to study in a city both modern and colonial, while
being situated ideally for adventure sports and ecological touring.
Besides the famous unique wildlife of the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador
also contains active volcanoes, ice-capped mountain peaks, and Amazon Basin
rain forests. A large portion of the population is indigenous and
highland Indians sell their goods in many the many markets surrounding
Quito.

Quito, the capital city of
Ecuador, is set in the highlands (2,900 meters) and has a mild climate
year round. The Old City sector of Quito contains colonial mansions,
cathedrals, and cobblestone streets. The New City is home to cafes,
bars, and restaurants of all types. Easy side trips include Cotopaxi,
the world's highest (5,900 meters) active volcano, the equatorial monument
La Mitad del Mundo, and the natural hot springs of Papallacta.
